Drawing Room

The next door from the entrance hall leads to the panelled drawing room which is painted a soft yellow with white woodwork. The canted bay with three sash windows faces east with views of the garden. The chimney piece is believed to have been carved by Henry Cheere (1703-1781) from a rich brown-red Sicilian Jasper with pure white sculpted marble. It is a wonderful example of the joyful Rococo style of the mid 18th century with its curves and scrolling lines of crested waves and festoons of flowers surrounding the central mask.
